There are two schools in the rural Caston School Corporation: Caston Elementary School, which serves Grades K–6, and Caston Junior-Senior High School, which serves Grades 7–12. The schools, located just south of Fulton, have a Facebook page with current news and information. Fulton is a town in Fulton County, located in north-central Indiana.
The students here come from five townships across two counties: Liberty, Wayne, and a portion of Union Township in Fulton County (including the towns of Fulton, Grass Creek, and Kewanna) and Adams and Bethlehem Townships in Cass County (including the towns of Metea and Twelve Mile).
Administrative and teaching staff continually search for new learning options for students. A Mac Lab with a Promethean Board is utilized in the high school. Technology is advancing at a rapid rate, and the school’s goal is to stay on top of it to give students as many advantages as possible.
Caston Elementary School’s motto is “Growing leaders one student at a time.” The school teaches each core academic subject in alignment with the recommended Indiana curriculum standards for Grades K–6. This includes the subject areas of math, English/language arts, science/health, and social studies. Students also receive formal instruction in visual/performing arts through music and/or art, and physical education. Students can also enjoy extracurricular activities like band, soccer, and Little League.
Remediation services are available to children who struggle to meet the standards at their grade level. A variety of interventions are utilized, and an intervention program may look very different for each student. Instruction at an accelerated rate or higher challenge level is provided for students identified as high ability. Much of the instruction and content presented to students is individualized through computer-based learning opportunities.
The goal at Caston Junior-Senior High School is to prepare students for a global society. Graduates will be required to have the kind of global skills that can be developed and perfected through the One-to-One initiative that is used in the school. The One-to-One initiative is not a technology initiative but rather an instructional initiative. In order to fully engage and challenge today's learners, the school environment must reflect the complexity of the modern world.
A dynamic interaction must take place between the teacher and the student. Students experience a dynamic learning environment on a daily basis, and in turn they not only become lifelong learners but active, knowledgeable, and creative citizens as well. Through this initiative, each student in Grades 7–12 receives an Apple iPad, and a large portion of their textbooks are received digitally on their iPads.
Students have a challenging curriculum, and they can continue to challenge themselves while having fun in extracurricular activities. Students can join musical groups including the band and chorus. As the home of the Comets, there are several sports teams to choose from throughout the year: football, basketball, cross country, volleyball, wrestling, track, golf, cheerleading, baseball, and softball.
