Lapel sits at the intersection of two state roads that travel through Indiana. These two routes are State Road 32 (running east to west) and State Road 13 (running north to south). Heading south on State Road 13 will take you to I-69, which will give you access Indianapolis if you head south and Fort Wayne if you head north. Many of the major suburbs and the city of Indianapolis are all easily accessible from Lapel. State Road 13 runs directly through Lapel, which is where you will find most of the business in the city, including the beautiful downtown area.

Lapel is a smaller town, though it is quickly growing. You won’t see many large chain restaurants that you can find anywhere. Instead, you get a variety of options that are homemade, and many of them are top-of-the-line. Restaurants of different varieties are available for lunch and dinner outings, and more than enough options are open for the late night crowd.

Lapel doesn’t have some of the major clothing and retail stores that you will find in Indianapolis, but since it isn’t a far drive, you can still get there easily. If you are looking to stay in the town of Lapel, there are still plenty of options for shopping. As you would expect for a rural community, there are great family-owned grocery stores in the town.

Culture and Entertainment

Lapel has a great culture. The streets are lined with antique gas lamps to give you a feeling of how the town felt when it was first established. One of the biggest draws of Lapel is the local golf courses. There are many club members in Lapel. It’s also home to the annual Village Fair that happens in July and offers two days of fun on a Friday and Saturday. There are food and craft vendors open throughout the day, and events include a rummage sale, games, music, and a fish fry on Friday. On Saturday, you can get much of the same great entertainment, but a cruise-in car show starts off the morning and a parade marches through during the afternoon. The weekend ends with a movie late at night for the entire family to enjoy. There are also other festivals that take place around the year.

Careers and Industry

Even though Lapel is a small town, there are plenty of jobs available. The main employer is the glass factory known as Owens Brockway, which employs many of the town’s residents. Many of the stores around town are also looking for help, so there shouldn’t be a shortage of work if you are looking for a new job.

There are also many jobs in larger communities that are less than a half hour away. Indianapolis is a 40-minute drive, while Fishers, Anderson, and other major suburbs with more job opportunities are even closer to Lapel.

Schools

There are plenty of public and private options in Lapel. If you are interested in the public school system here, Lapel Elementary School enrolls Pre-K through fifth grade (located on State Road 13). For students who are attending sixth grade through eighth grade, Lapel Middle School on State Road 13 is the place to be. There is only one high school located in town as well, and that is Lapel Senior High School. It is located on South 900 West and gets great ratings from parents who have had children enrolled there. The public school system in Lapel is great, and you are sure to enjoy the city if you choose to live here. The only private school option is Gentle Shepherds Preschool, but there may be more options in nearby Pendleton or Noblesville.
