Events

Here in Martinsville, we feel that we have some of the most interesting events a community our size could have. Those include:

* The perennially popular Summer Fest, which is held in the Downtown Square each June. This event features a number of fun activities suitable for the whole family and brings the whole community together for a great shared experience.

* The Morgan County Antique Machinery Show, also each June, is another favorite of locals. As an area with a rich history of working with the land, we enjoy this event exploring antique machines for farms and other uses.

* The Morgan County 4H Fair (July-August) is a great exhibition of MartinsvilleÕs successful 4H program. It is often generational, with parents who participated in their youth helping their own daughters and sons to be a part of it. Many say that 4H teaches a good work ethic, which each person then carries for the rest of their life.

* The Fall Foliage Festival each October is a big seasonal event, which occurs soon after each school year starts. It includes a parade featuring local students, music and prizes. The festival culminates in a talent show with everything from singing and dancing to balloon art and magic acts.

Schools

When looking for a new home, a key consideration is the quality of the schools. Martinsville schools have an excellent reputation for caring teachers and administrators, as well as well-maintained facilities. Parents who previously lived in larger cities say that they feel their children receive a great education at Martinsville schools. There are also special education services for those who need them. Private schools in the area are also well-regarded by the families attending them.

In addition to great academic programs, our schools also have great sports programs. Rooting on the sports teams from Martinsville High School is a favorite pastime here. MHS has an exceptionally well-developed athletic program, including football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, tennis, swimming, baseball, softball and golf. There are varsity, JV, and freshman versions with most sports fielding both boys and girls teams.

Of course, our city also has sports facilities available for adults as well. These include basketball and tennis courts, as well as places to work out.

Lifestyle

As a small town with a classic country feel, Martinsville has many great areas to go running and jogging, too. We're proud of having excellent paths for runners and walkers. We also have very atmospheric parks, which provide nice areas to have a picnic, a work get together, or just somewhere to relax.

Golf

Golfing is also a very popular attraction here. The Martinsville Golf Club has been in service for 88 years, and draws golfers from all over central Indiana. Many looking at buying a home in Martinsville are surprised to find such a high-quality club in a small town.

Dining

Here in Martinsville, friends and family often like to get together at one of the popular local restaurants. Of course, we have popular franchises like Papa John's, but also enjoy specialty places like Chili's, Indy's Family Restaurant and JK's Cheesecake Cafe.

Shopping

We also have a rich array of places to shop. There are many small locally-owned stores that sell everything from clothes to gift items. These can be a lot of fun to browse through, and it's easy to find unique and interesting items for casual purchases.

To make sure that all the shopping needs of Martinsville residents and visitors are met, we also have many bigger stores, too. These include: Walgreen's, Goodwill, Kitchenawe, Goody's, Walmart and a variety of other stores at Martinsville Plaza and Artesian Square.
