This small, rural elementary school educates students from preschool through 5th grade and is exceptional in terms of community and curriculum. The school’s mission is to show excellence in achievements, attitudes, and actions. Through structured literacy groups, teachers pay special attention to fostering high levels of literacy among students. These literacy groups focus on comprehension, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and phonemic awareness. Students in Grades 4-5 can compete in the Math Bowl, Spell Bowl, and be elected to the Student Council.
Teachers at this elementary school have a goal of developing a best-practice culture of learning and teaching. Students are assessed in Summative and Formative ways. Summative assessments, such as Unit Tests, are conducted to measure how much a student has learned after the completion of a certain lesson.
