Pam Baker, REALTOR/Broker
Pam began her career in real estate in the late 90’s as an investor with an eye for design and an ability to see beauty and potential in houses long since forgotten. She and her business partner loved the challenge of tackling the eye sore on the street, raising property values and leaving behind neighbors that were shocked and delighted to discover their homes might just be worth more than they realized.
Pam was evenutally approached by some friends who were inerested in hiring her for their interior design and remodeling needs; the word began to spread and a new business venture was launched. “Often times when a client would agree to a design plan and a budget, I would purchase all of the materials, organize the contractors, lock the door and not allow anyone to see the space until it was complete. I LOVED watching the faces of my clients when they would see a transformed space for the first time. Sometimes I would film their reactions because they were priceless moments!”
In 2008, after the real estate market began to crash, a dear friend told Pam about an RFQ that the City of Indianapolis had posted seeking the professional services of consultants to help administer a $30 million HUD grant called the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). The grant was designed to buy abandoned and foreclosed houses in areas hardest hit by the market crash, rehab the houses and then sell or rent them to low and moderately-low income families. “I laugh when I think that I segued from managing a few projects at a time to managing the transformation of entire streets and neighborhoods! It was an unbelievable privilege to play a role in helping transform communities, but most importantly in helping people realize their dreams of safe, affordable housing who would not have had the same kind of opportunity without that program.”
After the grant closed out, Pam realized that it was time to get her broker’s license, partner with FC Tucker, the best real estate firm in the Indiana market and offer an array of services and expertise to people looking to buy or sell a home in every stage of life. “Through my experience, I’ve discovered that everyone has what I call a ‘picket fence dream’ of homeownership whether it’s a first-time homebuyer or an empty nester looking to down-size. I firmly believe that with my background and my love for people and houses that I have the ability to help other people realize their picket fence dream, whatever that might be. My philosophy is to do my best to leave people and places better off than when I first found them.
