Pike County School Corporation is located in Petersburg in Pike County, which is in southern Indiana. It is located about 40 miles from Evansville, 25 miles from Vincennes, and 20 miles from Jasper. The corporation, whose motto is “Teaching children—building our future,” was established in 1966.

The corporation has received several awards in the past. In 2000 the Pike County School Corporation was on the list of 100 Best Public School Districts in the United States, a designation that the editors of the Wall Street Journal and Offspring Magazine gave after reviewing 17,000 schools nationwide. In 2005 the corporation and all five of its schools were recognized by the American Student Achievement Institute as a Top Gainer school for its excellent performance on the ISTEP+ test.
The district was recognized in 2006 by the Indiana Student Achievement Institute for Academic Excellence. The corporation earned a "Commendable" Public Law 221 Rating in 2011 from the Indiana Department of Education, and all schools in the corporation are members of the Indiana Student Achievement Institute. The corporation is also a member of the following organizations: Patoka Valley Vocational Cooperative, Gibson-Pike-Warrick Special Education Cooperative, and Southern Indiana Education Center.
Otwell Elementary School was an Indiana Four Star School in 2009 and 2011. It was the only school in Indiana to record a perfect passing score on the math portion of the ISTEP+ in 2010. It was also a National Blue Ribbon School a year later in 2011. The school challenges students to acquire skills they can utilize throughout their lives. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities for a well-rounded education. Students can join the basketball team, cheerleading squad, or student council as well as band or chorus.
At Petersburg Elementary School and Winslow Elementary School, students receive a quality education with an emphasis on all academic areas including fine arts. One goal both of these schools have is that all students attain high reading skills. These schools also stress the importance of teaching technological skills needed in the 21st century. To help them develop socially and emotionally, students also receive positive character traits education. Students at Petersburg and Winslow can also join the basketball team, cheerleading squad, student council, band, or chorus.
Pike Central Middle School works to meet the academic needs of students as they transition to young adulthood and life at the high school level. The school also strives to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of the students. Learning activities are creative and realistic, and the knowledge gained will help students both in college and in careers when they graduate. The school also fosters respect for self, family, community, and country. Students here can join sports teams like the basketball team and clubs such as student council.
Pike Central High School was an Indiana Chamber of Commerce "Best Buy" High School in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2008. The school offers a well-rounded education with general course requirements, honors classes, Advanced Placement courses, and vocational courses.
Pike Central High School is the home of the Chargers. Many students here participate in the school’s athletic programs, which includes baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling.
