Richmond Community Schools

Richmond Community Schools is located in the city of Richmond in Wayne County in east-central Indiana. Richmond is 73 miles east of Indianapolis and 42 miles southeast of Muncie. There are six elementary schools, two intermediate schools, an alternative school, and a high school in the school system. Richmond Community Elementary Schools

In addition to receiving instruction in the core subject areas of English, science, math, reading, and social studies, all students in the district participate in a creative arts program and a physical education program. Outside of their academic courses, students are also encouraged to take part in one of the school clubs like Spirit Club or Boys and Girls Club. Elementary schools in this district include Charles Elementary, Crestdale Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Vaile Elementary, Westview Elementary, and Elizabeth Starr Academy.

Elizabeth Starr Academy is a magnet school of choice. Students are taught how to be successful in the real world through the school’s Micro Society. Students participate in a rigorous curriculum based on the Indiana CORE 40 program, the Micro Society Curriculum, and real-world experiences.

David W. Dennis Intermediate School and Julia E. Test Intermediate School

David W. Dennis Intermediate School and Julia E. Test Intermediate School serve students in Grades 5–8. Teachers, parents, and the community work together to ensure that students are receiving the best education possible. Students become proficient in core subjects like math, science, language arts, and social studies as well as courses in music and art. Students can also participate on sports teams and in many school clubs.

Early College Academy, Life Skills, and Logos

The Early College Academy, Life Skills, and Logos are three programs located in the Hibberd Building and serves Grades 3–8. Students in the Early College Academy focus on gaining the skills needed to enter college early. Typically, these students take dual credit courses so they can earn college credits at this early stage. Students can also take Project Lead The Way beginning engineering classes and also have the opportunity to study Chinese culture with a visiting Chinese instructor. Netbooks and iPads are two of the technological tools used to enhance instruction.

Life Skills students learn the basic living skills of cooking, shopping, and personal care. Academic work is individualized for these students. Logos is a program for students in Grades 6–8. This high-ability group often works on group projects as well as individual research projects that are creative and show an advanced understanding of science, math, and the humanities.

Richmond High School

Richmond High School offers over 170 courses in general studies, honors courses, and career and technical courses. Students can also take Advanced Placement courses in subjects such as biology, calculus, and chemistry. Dual credit courses are available that count toward the general education requirements at most colleges. The school is home to the Richmond Area Career Center that offers 18 career and technical programs such as nursing, construction, engineering, and auto mechanics.

Students can participate on various sports teams including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, volleyball, wrestling, golf, soccer, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, softball, and track and field. The athletic department has a Facebook page with important information on schedules and games/meets. Students can also join many clubs including orchestra, band, choir, Business Professionals of America, student council, Skills USA, academic team, Peer Helpers, The Movement, and The Red Devil Players.
