The Rising Sun–Ohio County Community School Corporation is located in the city of Rising Sun in Ohio County. The city is situated along the Ohio River, and it is 39 miles west of Cincinnati, Ohio. The corporation is made up of two schools that together serve Grades K–12. The Rising Sun–Ohio County Community School Corporation has a Facebook page for the convenience of students and parents. The schools’ curriculum incorporates Indiana’s CORE 40 program. This program prescribes a given number of credits in these subject areas: English/language arts, math, science, social studies, physical education, and health and wellness as well as several elective courses. Ohio County Elementary-Middle School is located in Rising Sun and serves Grades K–8. The comprehensive curriculum helps students develop the skills and gain the knowledge they need to meet their potential. Students also develop their ability to make positive life choices and to feel confident when dealing with change. They are also encouraged to set goals and develop strategies for attaining them. Teachers here also encourage students to enhance their education by participating in an extracurricular activity such as band, chorus, basketball, or student council.
Rising Sun High School serves Grades 9–12. Students are challenged to meet their maximum potential so they can become productive members of a constantly changing society. In addition to taking required courses and electives, students can also elect to participate in dual credit classes. These classes allow students to earn more than 60 college credits before they even set a foot on campus. These credits count toward their general education requirements at colleges and universities.
Students can also choose to attend Southeastern Career Center, which prepares students for careers in business and industry. Students learn technical skills along with receiving instruction in academic subjects. Students can choose from 20 different programs in fields such as auto repair, drafting, computer networking, and culinary arts. Students can also become involved in three Project Lead The Way courses: computer integrated manufacturing, aerospace engineering, and engineering design and development.
Rising Sun High School students can also participate in athletic activities like basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, cross country, soccer, volleyball, baseball, track and field, golf, and softball. They can also participate in musical activities such as band and chorus. Other extracurricular activities include Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and student council.
