The best shopping and dining in that tight radius is the city of La Porte. There are more than a handful of restaurants and shopping destinations in La Porte, and many of them are locally owned. Not much farther in the other direction is New Carlisle, which hosts plenty of its own charming options. If you’re willing to drive up to 20 minutes away, you can make your way to Michigan City. This happening city on the shore of Lake Michigan and right next to Indiana Dunes State Park has everything you need.
The even larger cities of South Bend and Chicago are also right on your doorstep. South Bend is barely half an hour away, and at just over an hour to its downtown area, Chicago is within the perfect distance for a leisurely day trip. Between those two magnificent cities, you aren’t denied a world-class shopping or dining experience. Rolling Prairie doesn’t have much in the way of its own cultural institutions. However, its placement means finding all the culture and entertainment you could possibly want isn’t a challenge. Lake Michigan is naturally the star attraction in this region, offering unlimited options for fishing, boating, and many other hobbies. Likewise, many of the smaller lakes around the town are designated conservation areas or incorporated into parks you can visit with your family.
Dune Acres State Park is the largest park in the area, which is located near Michigan City, covers nearly 2000 acres of lakeside nature. Because of the ideal terrain in the area, there are also dozens of golf courses within a short drive of Rolling Prairie.
When it comes to the big-city lights, they’re all around you. Chicago is a world-class city that offers you more in the way of entertainment than most other cities in the world. Each neighborhood is filled with eateries, pubs, museums, and other vibrant expressions of culture. It may even be impossible to attend all the festivals and events you might want to because so many of them are happening at the same time.
There are almost no businesses directly in Rolling Prairie. Many of the people in this community prefer to commute to one of the other nearby communities such as La Porte and South Bend, which feature all kinds of businesses. Because of the local trains and interstate system, the option of working in the Chicago area is also viable.
The schools in town are managed by the New Prairie United School Corporation. This respected corporation provides a wonderful education to the children in its care and is frequently recognized by the state for the quality of that care. Several elementary schools are in town including Olive Township Elementary School, Prairie View Elementary School, and Rolling Prairie Elementary School. Further out but still accessible are New Prairie Middle/High School.
