Indy-Area Farmers Markets

We’re well into the summer, and farmers markets across the city are in full swing. Surrounded by so many farms, Indianapolis has more farmers markets than you could possibly imagine. Regardless of where you live in the area, there is certainly a farmers market in your neighborhood.

1. 38th and Meridian Farmer’s Market

On the first and third Thursdays of each month, between 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm, the North United Methodist Church at the intersection of 38th Street and North Meridian Street hosts a farmers market.Called the 38th and Meridian Farmer’s Market, this market is designed to help bring local goods and produce to the area, which does not have a lot of access to fresh food. This market runs between June and September.

2. Abundant Life Church Farmers' Market

Abundant Life Church on East 82nd Street in Indianapolis has its own farmers market between the months of June and September. This weekday market, held between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Thursdays, is a great opportunity to pick up some fresh goods and mingle with the community. Last year, the market welcomed well-known vendors like Oberweis Dairy and Stuckey Farms.

3. Avon Farmers Market

The Avon Famers Market is just one of several Hendricks County farmers markets, but that does not mean it is not worth the visit. Located at the Hendricks Regional Health Building on US-36, this farmers market is held on Tuesdays between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. It will run until September and in the past has had unusual offering like tie-dye shirts and jewelry.

4. Broad Ripple Farmers Market

The Broad Ripple Farmers Market, 1115 Broad Ripple Avenue, started off with a bang on Saturday, May 6. This market, which schedules well into November, is held every Saturday from May through September between 8:00 am and noon. Beginning in October, it opens an hour later and still runs until noon. This year, the market is introducing some new green initiatives, making it as environmentally friendly as possible.

5. Brownsburg Farmers Market

Indianapolis-area residents looking to mix it up a little during the week should trek out to Brownsburg and check out the town’s farmers market. Held on Thursdays at Brownsburg Town Hall, the market is open between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Visitors will find the usual produce, but they may also come across handcrafted items, baked goods and other unique items.The Brownsburg Farmers Market will run weekly between June 1st and September 7th. Families with kids should consider registering for the Pop Club for Kids, a fun, kid-focused, educational rewards program.

6. Carmel Farmers Market

Undoubtedly one of the biggest of its kind in the entire area, Northsiders should treat the Carmel Farmers Market as a must-see. This market has been running since May 6th and will run through September 30th. Held between 8:00am and 11:30am, this farmers market regularly hosts live music, adding a little something extra to the already wonderful atmosphere. Like most large events in Carmel, this farmers market, which has been running continuously since 1998, is held in the Center Green.

7. Crooked Creek Farmers Market

Convenient for Northsiders and Pike Township residents, the Crooked Creek Farmers Market is located at the Crooked Creek CDC on Westlane Road just west of Michigan Road. In its seventh year, the Crooked Creek Farmers Market is a must-see for area residents.

8. Cumberland Farmers Market

In extreme eastern Marion County, you might come across the Cumberland Famers Market, which has entered its 14th season. This market is held every Saturday between 8:00am and noon. A little smaller than many of its Marion County counterparts, this farmers market is still a perfect way to spend a Saturday morning this spring and summer.

9. Danville Chamber of Commerce Farmer’s Market

If you take a stroll down Jefferson Street in Danville on a Saturday morning this summer, you will probably come across the town’s own farmers market. The market runs between 8:00 am and noon until September 2nd. This market has more than produce. Visitors regularly stumble upon kettle corn, homemade soap, coffee and plenty of other unique goods. .

10. Farm to Fork Market

Normandy Farms, at the intersection of 79th Street and Marsh Road, on the northwest side of Indianapolis is home to the Farm to Fork Market, deemed “Indiana’s Only Chemical-Free Farmers Market.” Produce and meats sold at this market are either organic or naturally grown. This market is held on Fridays between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

11. Fishers Farmers Market

Fishers decided to add to Hamilton County’s impressive catalog of farmers markets by starting its own in 2002. Local produce, meats, breads and desserts are all available to guests on Saturday mornings until September 30thThis market is held at 6 Municipal Drive just west of the intersections of I-69 and East 116th Street.

12. Fortville Farmers Market

Every Thursday Fortville, Indiana, hosts its farmers market between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm, Started in 2013, it is sponsored by the Fortville McCordsville Chamber of Commerce and held at Fortville Church of the Nazarene at the intersection of South Maple Street and West County Road 1000 North.

13. Franklin Farmers Market

Locals might recognize vendors like The Apple Works and Rich’s Kitchen at the Franklin Farmers Market in Franklin, Indiana. Located at the corner of South Jackson Street and West Jefferson Street in Downtown Franklin, this great farmers market runs from May 13th until September 2nd this year. Held every Saturday between 8:00 am and noon, this farmers market has unique offerings like goat cheese, dog treats and wooden signs.

14. Garfield Park Farmers Market

Southsiders might want to check out the Garfield Park Farmers Market, located near the tennis courts in Garfield Park off South Shelby Street. This market is held on Saturdays between May and October. Opening early at 9:00am, visitors get over three hours to peruse the Garfield Park grounds for fresh produce and goods.

15. Greenfield Farmers Market

Greenwood is host for another great Saturday farmers market held between 8:00 am and noon on Saturdays. With its last session on the 2nd Saturday in October, this one runs late into the year. The Greenwood Farmers Market is held at 525 North Madison Avenue, not too far from the Greenwood Park Mall.

16. Greenwood Farmers Market

Greenwood is host for another great Saturday farmers market held between 8:00 am and noon on Saturdays. With its last session on the 2nd Saturday in October, this one runs late into the year. The Greenwood Farmers Market is held at 525 North Madison Avenue, not too far from the Greenwood Park Mall.

17. Irvington Farmers Market

The Irvington Farmers Market is held in the afternoons, making it a great option for late-risers. It is officially held between noon and 3:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month between June and October. The market is hosted by scenic Ellenberger Park in the historic Irvington neighborhood of Indianapolis. This large market is host to over 70 different vendors, providing anything from green peppers to perennials.

18. JCC Farmers Market

The Jewish Community Center, better known as the JCC, has been hosting a farmers market for the Meridian Hills area since 2013. This farmers market is the only one in the entire city that is open on Sundays. It opens at 10:00 am and closes by 1:30 pm. The JCC Farmers Market is open to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation. In addition to traditional offerings like produce, the JCC Farmers Market has live music and dairy products, and it operates run or shine.

19. Lebanon City Market

Lebanon residents are probably familiar with the Lebanon City Market, located in Downtown Lebanon on North Meridian Street. Providing the very best produce and goods from the area, the Lebanon City Market is one of the best places in Lebanon to meets friends new and old. This great market is held on Fridays between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, making it a great place to stop after a long work week.

20. Morgan County Farmers Market

The Morgan County Farmers Market might just be the best place in the entire county to get fresh produce. This market is held at two different locations. On Tuesdays, it is at the Mooresville Friends Church between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. On Saturdays, it moves down to Martinsville Square, where it is held between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. This great Southside market runs through September, and it has been running with a full head of steam since 2009.

21. The Market at Hague

Just over the border from Hamilton County, Lawrence North High School is home to The Market at Hague. Between May 6th and October 28th, this farmers market welcomes food-seekers between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm on Saturdays. In October, this market opens at nine, but it still runs until noon. The market is huge, welcoming around 100 vendors every season.

22. Noblesville Main Street Farmers Market

Officially, Noblesville’s farmers market is the oldest of its type in Hamilton County. Only adding to its prestige, it is also the largest in the county, featuring 80 different vendors. Visitors regularly find jewelry, crafts and pet products in addition to food and produce. This market is easy to find, located on Conner Street right by Riverview Hospital. This market is held on Saturdays between 8:00 am and noon until October 14th.

23. The Original Farmers’ Market

Arguably the granddaddy of them all, The Original Farmers’ Market, hosted by the Indianapolis City Market, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. This is Downtown Indianapolis’ main farmers’ market, and it is held between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm on Wednesdays until October. Between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, this market really stands out with its live music.  City Market is located on East Market Street just east of the circle. This market runs rain or shine, so bring a rain jacket if the weather is a little less than desirable.

24. Pendleton Farmers’ Market

Until October 14th, visitors can head out to the Pendleton Farmers’ Market on Saturdays between 8:00 am and noon. The Pendleton Farmers’ Market is just one of two large farmers markets held in Madison County, and, in the past, has hosted local businesses like Apple of His Eye Orchard and Simply Flowers.

25. Plainfield Chamber Farmers’ Market

Still new to the scene, this will be the Plainfield Chamber Farmers’ Market’s second season in operation. Open on Wednesdays from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, visitors can find this new farmers market at the intersection of West Carter Street and South East Street, just south of US-40 in Plainfield.

26. Shelbyville Farmers Market

If you live on the Southeast side, you do not have to go far to get some great produce. Shelbyville, in the heart of Shelby County, has its own wonderful farmers market held on Saturdays from 8:00 am to noon. Rain or shine, you’ll find this market in the heart of Downtown Shelbyville.

27. Southport Farmers Market

The Southport Farmers Market, also known as the Southside Farmers Market, is held twice a week at 2810 East Southport Road. On Tuesdays, it runs from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. On Thursdays, it is open between 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm. This market grows every year, starting with just five vendors in 2013.

28. Westfield Farmers Market

The Town of Westfield has its own farmers market, held on Saturdays between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. This will be just the third season of the market, making it one of the newest events of its type in the area. Running June through September, the Westfield Farmers Market is held at 130 Penn Street, just a block north of IN-32.

29. Whitestown Farmers Market

Held on Saturdays between May 6th and September, this Boone County farmers market has been running since 2015. It is located at Whitestown Municipal Complex and is open between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Visitors will find locally-grown veggies, baked goods, flowers, jam, meat and plenty of other delicious goods.

30. Zionsville Farmers Market

The Zionsville Farmers Market has a rich tradition, welcoming Indianapolis-area visitors for 20 years. This market is easy to locate in Downtown Zionsville, and it is held between 8:00 am and 11:00 am on Saturdays through September. After checking out the market, visitors should consider strolling down Zionsville’s famous Main Street.
