Lyons Elementary School
One of the two elementary schools in the district, Lyons Elementary serves the townships of Washington, Stafford, Cass, portions of Fairplay, and Grant, all in Greene County, and approximately 210 students from kindergarten to the 6th grade. The school boasts an advanced and well-varied curriculum that is above national standards and the staff is proud of the often exceptional academic performance of its students. The students may take part in a number of sports, including basketball, volleyball (girls), and cross country and track. Recently, the school has launched the Little Stars center, which caters to the children between ages 3 and 6. The center offers a special curriculum designed to suit the students’ age, which incorporates music, drama, games, fine and gross motor activities, alongside traditional skills, such as reading and writing.
The second school serving the area is Worthington, which accommodates about 250 students in grades kindergarten through sixth from the townships of Jefferson and Smith, portions of Fairplay and Grant townships, and the incorporated town of Worthington. The school is central to the small community’s social, cultural and recreational scenes. Students have historically displayed high academic achievements, frequently above national average. The students can participate in a few athletic teams, including basketball for both boys and girls, and track.
White River Valley Junior-Senior High School
WRV High is a 6-year comprehensive public school, situated in Switz City, which offers a well-balanced curriculum, including advanced placement and dual-credit courses, as well as several vocational programs. Students may choose to concentrate on agriculture, industrial technology, and business among other course clusters. The school’s enrollment is close to 410 students, served by 28 professional staff members, including a librarian, a counselor, a nurse, a computer coordinator and an athletics director. The athletic teams, known as the Wolverines, compete in the following sports:
