Dr. Tuttle sold most of the plat, and eventually the town of Enterprise was renamed “Hamilton” and incorporated in 1844. Today, the town is mainly a resort town that sees an influx of vacationers known colloquially as "lakers" during the summer months.

The main feature of the town is its namesake lake which the town was built around. The recreational activities in Hamilton include boating, fishing, and water skiing on Hamilton Lake and the two-mile Fish Creek Trail that links Hamilton’s Gnagy Park to Ball Lake in Steuben County. Gnagy Park houses baseball diamonds and a tennis association. Hamilton also includes Cold Springs Golf Course and several other golf courses nearby including Hidden Valley in Angola and Wind Wood Hollow in Edon. The recreational areas in Hamilton, Gnagy Park, Fish Creek Trail, and the Public Beach offer wholesome family fun and entertainment, physical activity, healthy lifestyle activities, and social interaction with other community members.

Steuben County offers year-round recreational opportunities in addition to the activities found around the lake in Hamilton. Residents and visitors can enjoy a ride down Indiana’s only refrigerated toboggan tube at Pokagon State Park. The commission operates within the town limits. A primary focus is on the creation of new jobs within Hamilton.
