Highland School Town

The School Town of Highland is located in the town of Highland, Indiana. The School Board works with administration, teachers, and parents to ensure that the school community is not only cohesive but exceptionally productive. Judith Morton Johnston Elementary School

This mid-size school serves students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Much of the curriculum here, particularly for the lower grade levels, is focused on achieving literacy proficiency. Each day is structured in blocks of time so that students can develop skills at a paces that work best for them. There is also a Transition Kindergarten class at this school, the smaller size of which allows for more individualized instruction for children as they transition between Kindergarten and 1st grade.

 

Mildred Merkley Elementary School

This K-5 elementary school offers students individualized attention from educators dedicated to developing each student’s learning skills. Literacy skills are developed through such methods as write-in readers, as well as practice in reading out loud. Weekly reading quizzes are often a part of various lesson plans.

 

Southridge Elementary School

With students ranging from Kindergarten through 5th grade, this school prides itself on making sure that students are taught in a safe school that promotes respect among peers. The school curriculum is set up in stages, so that students are regularly evaluated in terms of such important core learning skills as reading comprehension, vocabulary, and math readiness.

 

Allen J. Warren Elementary School

At this elementary school, teachers endeavor to provide an educational environment that creates well-rounded individuals for their students. Parents regularly communicate with teachers for updates on student progress.

 

Highland Middle School

Students in Grades 6-8 attend this school and are encouraged to not only become successful but also be studious, confident, trustworthy, and outstanding. The academic curriculum allows students to learn in the traditional structure of a classroom, but it also gives them opportunities for academic experimentation at their own rate of learning. Students can also choose to join in a variety of sports such as football, cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and track.

 

Highland High School

Students in Grades 9-12 learn in an environment that promotes education by example. In addition to regular academic classes, students can participate in extracurricular activities such as drama and marching band. Known as the “Home of the Trojans,” athletic teams include Bowling, Cross Country, Basketball, Golf, Football, Tennis, Wrestling, Baseball, and Volleyball.
