5 Tips to Add Curb Appeal to Your Home

The first impression of a home for sale in Indianapolis can make or break a deal, reinforcing the old adage that first impressions are everything. What buyers first see when they pull up to the home impacts the rest of their experience inside the house.

Does your home have the curb appeal it takes to win over for home buyers at first sight? An attractive home exterior yields higher sales prices; it’s been proven over and over again in every real estate market climate.

Here are 5 tips to add curb appeal to your home:

  1. Give it a good clean! Wash windows and doors. Remove cobwebs and even power wash the siding. You may not even recognize your own home when you remove the layers of dirt. Be sure to clean walkways, porches and decks, too.

  2. Re-energize the paint job. Even if your entire home doesn’t need a new paint job, you can freshen up the look by touching up or repainting doors, shutters and trim. The crisp coat of paint shows that this home is being well-maintained.

  3. Lively up the landscape and lighting. A nicely lit path to groomed lawn and landscape is much more inviting than dead plants and a barren yard. With an investment of 10% of your home’s value into landscaping, you can see a returns on that investment as high 100%. At a minimum, trim back, clean out and spruce up the landscaping you do have.

  4. Make the house number shine. With a little pride in your house number, guests will know they’ve arrived. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to find the right house on the street. Make it crystal clear for your visitors by making your house number easily visible on the house and near the street.

  5. Capture professional images. The vast majority of home searches start online. Be sure your Indianapolis REALTOR captures high quality photos to put your home’s best foot forward in online home searches.
