Artificial trees are convenient, but there’s nothing quite like the smell of a fresh pine tree. Take a trip to a local tree farm to create a wonderful family memory and guarantee your tree’s freshness. Here are a few options throughout the state.
St. Joe Christmas Tree Farm

What’s available: Pre-cut and choose-and-cut trees, as well as fresh wreaths, garland and roping.
Types of trees: Scotch and white pines, Colorado blue spruce, and Douglas, white and Frazer firs. Sizes range from 3 to over 12 feet.
When they are open: Pre-cut trees and greenery will be available beginning November 23. Choose-and-cut trees will be available the day after Thanksgiving. Check the website for a more specific schedule.
Hensler Nursery

What’s available: Pre-cut and choose-and-cut trees, as well as wreaths and other greenery.
Types of trees: Scotch and white pine and Frazer fir.
When they are open: Their Christmas Festival runs November 23 to December 22. In addition to trees and greenery, you can visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoy some treats. Open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily.
Homestead Pine Tree Farm

What’s available: Pre-cut and choose-and-cut trees, as well as wreaths and other greenery.
What’s available: Frazer, concolor and Canaan firs; white and Scotch pine; and Norway and white spruce. Trees up to 14 feet.
When they are open: Their season starts on Friday, November 29. Opening weekend hours are Friday 10 a.m.-dark, Saturday 9:30 a.m.-dark, and Sunday 1 p.m.-dark.
Dull’s Tree Farm
1765 W. Blubaugh Avenue, Thorntown, IN 46071
What’s available: Pre-cut; choose-and-cut; and live, balled trees, as well as wreaths.
What’s available: Choose-and-cut—Scotch and white pine and Frazer fir; 4-9 feet. Pre-cut—Fraser and concolor fir; 4-10 feet. (Call ahead for taller pre-cut trees.) Live, balled—white pine, fir and spruce. Live, balled trees can only be kept in your home for five days and must be acclimated to changing temperatures as you bring it in and as you take it back out. They are also heavy to maneuver and must be under 5 feet tall.
When they are open: Their season starts on Friday, November 29, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday 3-6 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday 1-6 p.m.
Millbrook Tree Farm and Nursery

What’s available: Pre-cut and choose-and-cut trees, as well as wreaths and other greenery.
What’s available: Canaan, concolor, Douglas, Korean, and Nikko firs; Norway, white and Colorado blue spruce; and Scotch and white pine. Pre-cut trees also include Fraser, noble and grand firs. Tree sizes range from one foot for a table top tree to more than 26 feet.
When they are open: Thanksgiving through December 19. Saturday and Sunday 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday 3:30-6:00 p.m.
