Relax & Unwind. You’re on Patio Time!

Close Out Summer with some of the best Patios around Indy!

What’s more enjoyable about an Indiana summer than kicking up your feet on a patio with a cold beer in hand? That question’s rhetorical, of course, as patio lounging is the most relaxing late-summer activity in the mind of any native Hoosier. In recent years, Indy’s burgeoning restaurant and bar scene has exploded with new haunts sporting outdoor patios. So, as summer 2017 begins to wrap up, you’d be remiss to not visit all of Indy’s top-notch outdoor patios just once one last time.

Below you’ll find a list of some of the most noteworthy patios Indianapolis & surrounding cities has to offer. Be sure to check them out before they close those patio doors for good!

Bakersfield | Mass Ave

Known for having some of the best tacos in the city, Bakersfield has since expanded into its neighboring alley to create a terrace covered in Day of the Dead artwork and string lights, a perfect setting to down one of their freshly made margaritas.

Burgerhaus | Canal Walk

Burgerhaus’ canal side patio is as unique as their jambalaya burger. Pop in for a world-class burger, craft beer and some of the best people (and duck) watching in Indianapolis.

Plat 99 Mixology Lounge | Downtown

Sitting amidst the stunning Alexander hotel downtown, this upscale cocktail bar boasts outdoor fire places, comfy lounges and modern artwork worthy of the IMA.

Ralston’s Drafthouse | Mass Ave

Competing with Burgerhaus’ people watching, Ralston’s terrace gives patrons an up close and personal view of the young and trendy Mass Ave area. Their Square Mile Wings aren’t half bad either.

Oaken Barrel | Greenwood

What this south side brewery’s patio lacks in panache, they more than make up for in ability to serve award-winning craft beer at a speedy pace. Their Super Fly IPA won best IPA in Indiana!

The Rathskeller | Mass Ave

As one of the most iconic patios in the city, The Rathskeller’s Bavarian style beer garden is as massive as it is inviting. The historic brick walls, abundant greenery and live music from their domed stage only proves to solidify their legacy.

Tow Yard Brewing | Downtown

Near Lucas Oil Stadium lies the massive Tow Yard Brewing, an old factory turned brewery with a patio looking out onto one of the best skyline views Indy has to offer.

Union Brewing Company | Carmel

This north side brewery’s patio may look unassuming at first glance, but once the live band and string lights kick on, you’ll remember why drinking local beer on a patio are one of any Indiana natives’ favorite pastimes.

Matt the Miller’s Tavern | Carmel

Sticking in Carmel, Matt the Miller’s is as much about their curated selection of craft beer as it is about their elegant outdoor patio. Skip the TV’s inside and order up some loaded tavern chips or savory flatbreads on the terrace.

Bluebeard | Fountain Square

As one of the hottest new restaurants in Indy, Bluebeard has a quaint outdoor garden to go with its already stellar food reputation. Pull up a seat in the shade and get a taste of their brunch menu with beef tartare and melon caprese.

The Eagle | Mass Ave

The newly refurbished Eagle on Mass Ave has one of the best patios on the strip. This modern, yet rustic eatery serves up southern classics under a sprawling, well-lit patio making it an ideal stop for after-hours.

Rick’s Café Boatyard| Eagle Creek

Comparable to The Rathskeller’s historic patio, Rick’s Café is a true Indiana institution. Overlooking the Eagle Creek Reservoir, this expansive lakeside patio will make you feel like you’re on vacation. Live jazz music and an excellent upscale menu lend to Rick’s notoriety as well.

La Revolucion | Fountain Square

What could be more American than tacos, burgers and a tiki bar? Well La Revolucion has taken notice of our obsession with these delights and combined them in a fun, colorful, Hawaiian-themed backyard patio in Fountain Square.

Tinker Street | Near North Side

Though for the most part shaded, Tinker Street’s outdoor seating is comfortable, sophisticated and charming. With a focus on their wine and beer selection, this 16th street restaurant is all about supporting the local community through food and drinks.

Iozzo’s Garden of Italy | Downtown

Adjacent to Lucas Oil Stadium, Iozzo’s picturesque, garden-style courtyard blends old-world charm with modern Italian fare. Order a plate of scallops and goat cheese and ask your server to recommend one of their delectable vintage wines.
