5 Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Indy

If you want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in style, Indianapolis is the place to do it!  This year, the city is filled with a plethora of green-tastic events. Below, we have listed a few events happening throughout the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Greening the Canal – Thursday 3/15, 5:00PM
Yep, this event is exactly what you think it is – the canal in downtown Indianapolis is turning a lush color of green.  This 21st annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration is all about embracing the beloved color and kicking off St. Patrick’s Day weekend.  The “Greening” will be attended by Mayor Hogsett and will have several performances by Irish groups. There will even be food trucks featuring Irish fare.  What’s not to love?

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra: The Music of U2 – Friday 3/16, 8:00PM
For those looking to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a more refined way, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO) is collaborating with a full rock band to put on “The Music of U2.”  This tribute concert will feature hits such as “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Tickets are going fast, so be sure to purchase them soon here: https://www.indianapolissymphony.org/event-detail/u2.

37th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Block Party – Friday 3/16, 11:30AM
On the Friday before St. Patrick’s Day, an epic parade and party is taking place on Vermont Street.  That is right, it is time for the 37th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Block Party!  This event is full of St. Patrick’s Day festivities with live music throughout the day and a parade featuring 90 groups.  They even give out the Irish Citizen of the Year award on the Hoosier Lottery “Imagine That” Stage!

27th Annual Shamrock Run & Walk – Saturday 3/17, 10:00AM
This long-running (no pun intended) event has been the official race of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for the past 27 years.  Funds from the race go to the Indy Sports Foundation and Indianapolis Professional Firefighters 416 (IFD). If that was not enough, runners can continue to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with live entertainment and a beer garden after the race.  More information be found on their website: https://www.shamrockrunwalk.com/.

Indy Fuel vs. Toledo Walleye – Saturday 3/17, 7:35PM
If you wanted something a bit more original to do on St. Patrick’s Day, head on over to the Pepsi Coliseum to see the Indy Fuel battle the Toledo Walleye.  To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the ice surface will be green and the food vendors will be selling green snacks and beer throughout the night. Additionally, if fans bring green canned goods to the game, they will receive a free Fuel St. Patrick’s Day coozie.  All cans will be donated to Gleaners Food Bank.

Of course, if you are looking to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a more traditional way, there are plenty of bars and restaurants featuring St. Patrick’s Day events.  We have listed a few of the well-known events below.
