Are you ready to get your nature on this spring? Find something a little different at each one of these parks outside of Indianapolis.
Mulberry Fields Park
9645 Whitestown Road, Zionsville
This 38-acre park located in Zionsville has something for everyone: trails, a skate park, athletic fields, and a spacious playground. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, be sure to stop by the splash pad to cool off! Fun fact: the runoff water from the splash pad flows to a man-made stream that has boulders for climbing, rocks for building dams, and more.
Coxhall Gardens
11677 Towne Road, Carmel
With landscape beautiful enough to be a backdrop for weddings, Coxhall Gardens in Carmel is one-of-a-kind. Stroll through the 125-acre park to find gardens, water, trails, and more. Kids will love the Children’s Garden, which includes village stores, echo walls, peek-a-boo hills, and Tiki huts. Be sure to stay until the top of the hour to hear the rings from the twin bell towers!
Independence Park
2450 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood
Independence Park is home to Indiana’s first all-accessible playground area for children with disabilities. You’ll also find a wheelchair accessible trail, a 1/2 mile asphalt hiking trail, a full-court basketball court, as well as a wheelchair accessible basketball court. The park is also home to a special sensory playground area that is specially-created for children who have autism.
Urban Forest Story Trail
308 W. South St., Franklin
Both kids and adults will love the the unique experience from the Urban Forest Story Trail in Franklin. This joint effort between the Johnson County Public Library and the Franklin Parks and Recreation department allows you to work your way through a book as you walk along a curved path through the Urban Forest.
Roy G. Holland Memorial Park
1 Park Drive, Fishers
If you’re ready to get active this spring, Roy G. Holland Memorial Park is the perfect place to go. Soccer, baseball, and softball fields, sand volleyball courts and basketball courts – you’ll find it all here. If sports aren’t your thing, there’s still a ton more to enjoy! Multi-use trails, picnic shelters, a community building, as well as a playground that includes a toddler portion to keep your littlest ones happy. In the summer heat, be sure to check out the splash pad, open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Riley Park
1002 E 2nd St, Greenfield
Just east of Indianapolis, you’ll find Riley Park in Greenfield. This 40-acre park includes plenty to do this spring: a 7200-square foot skatepark, 2 basketball courts, 6 tennis courts, 5 baseball fields, playground equipment, as well as fishing along Brandywine Creek. Be sure to come back in the winter for the sledding hill!
Washington Township Park
435 Whipple Lane, Avon
With 5 miles of hiking trails, two 1/2 acre DNR-stocked fishing ponds, mountain bike trails, and more, you’ll be able to get in touch with nature at Washington Township Park in Avon. Be sure to check out the Whipple Iron Truss Bridge (built in 1875!), outdoor amphitheater, outdoor fitness station, as well as a StoryWalk sponsored by Avon-Washington Township Public Library.
