Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum

INDIANAPOLIS  – The “Month of May” is upon us. As you prepare to witness the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 27, 2018, perhaps you could take some time to think about the history the famed race holds. Even better, you can visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum and learn firsthand about the history of the race and the track itself.

Opened 363 days of the year, the IMS Hall of Fame Museum is on Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) grounds, just inside turn two of the track. Whether you are new to the sport of racing or a veteran fan, you will learn something new during a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum.

Pricing

Admission to the museum is $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6 to 15, and free for those 5 and under.

Entrance onto the IMS grounds and parking is free on non-event days only. If there are events going on at the track (for example practice, qualifying, race day, etc.) a general admission ticket is required to enter IMS grounds. This general admission ticket is in addition to the museum admission ticket. Check the IMS schedule online if you are unsure of the track activities for your selected day.

What to Expect

When you first walk into the IMS Hall of Fame Museum, you will encounter two gift shops that are free to roam without a museum ticket. These stores offer a huge selection of race gear, from clothing and accessories to die cast cars and flags.

As you move further into the building, you will be greeted by the very friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable staff, which will provide tickets and answer any questions regarding the museum. You are now ready to jump into a history lesson of fast cars, famed drivers and the amazing Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Walking into the initial showroom is breathtaking. The museum floor is lined with race cars dating all the way back to Ray Harroun’s 1911 Indianapolis 500 winning car and as new as Alexander Rossi’s 2016 winning machine. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a race expert or have a guided tour to know what you are looking at. In front of each car is a brief description of the car’s driver, date raced and the significance the car had in IMS history.

Any Unser fans out there? Within the walls of the IMS Hall of Fame Museum is a special tribute to the Unser family, who, between Al Sr., Al Jr. and Bobby, have won nine Indianapolis 500 races. The Unser Exhibit has eight of the nine winning Indy 500 cars on display, as well as 25 additional Unser cars that highlight the full career of the three racers. Don’t miss your chance to experience this exciting exhibit, which runs now through October 28.

The IMS Hall of Fame Museum caters to its NASCAR, Formula One, Sprint, Midget, motorcycle races, and drag racing fans, as well.

In addition to all of the excitement inside the walls of the IMS Hall of Fame Museum, there are a number of tours and on-track opportunities the museum offers at additional costs. These include track laps, “Kiss the Bricks” tour, VIP Grounds tour, and more.

The IMS Hall of Fame Museum offers a fun experience and learning opportunity for fans of all ages. It is open from 9 AM to 5 PM March through October and 10 AM to 4 PM November through February.
