Some of Indiana’s Best Ice Cream

Who knew there were so many ice cream shops in central Indiana? I guess that is how you know we love our ice cream!  To get you in the ice cream mood, we have created an ice cream shops guide to central Indiana below.

 

Mrs. Curl 

  • Location: Greenwood
  • Unique Flavor: Fruity Pebbles Razzle
  • Fun Fact: Mrs. Curl Ice Cream Shop and Outdoor Café is known primarily for its deliciously creamy soft serve.

Brics

  • Location: Indianapolis
  • Unique Flavor: Whistle Stop Wake Up (espresso ice cream with dark chocolate chips)
  • Fun Fact: Brics is located right off the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple.  Feel free to ride your bike or walk to get this delicious tasty treat!

Handel’s Ice Cream & Yogurt

 

  • Location: Carmel and Fishers
  • Unique Flavor: Graham Central Station
  • Fun Fact: Handel’s was founded in Youngstown Ohio and now has 40 locations in eight different states, including Indiana.

 

Trader’s Point Creamery

 

  • Location: Zionsville
  • Unique Flavor: Chocolate
  • Fun Fact: Trader’s Point Creamery is a fully operational dairy farm based out of Zionsville.  They serve their ice cream out of The Dairy Bar, a shop on the property.

 

Sundaes Homemade Ice Cream & Coffee Company

 

  • Location: Indianapolis
  • Unique Flavor: Maple Nut
  • Fun Fact: Sundaes Homemade Ice Cream & Coffee Company has over 150 recipes for different flavors of ice cream.  They have only been open since 1995!

 

The Scoop

 

  • Location: Zionsville
  • Unique Flavor: Banana Chocolate Chip

  • Fun Fact: This place is known for its funky flavors.  Signature flavors include: Dark Chocolate Balsamic, Gingersnap Lemon Curd, Candied Pecan Gorgonzola, Salted Caramel Sage, and Cedar & Whiskey

 

Wyliepalooza Ice Cream

 

  • Location: Indianapolis
  • Unique Flavor: Scotch Ale Caramel Crunch

Hartzell’s Homemade Ice Cream

  • Fun Fact: Hartzell’s Homemade Ice Cream is the only remaining downtown ice cream shop in Bloomington and is a self-proclaimed favorite among students.

 

Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor

  • Unique Flavor: Dreamsicle
  • Fun Fact: Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor, a 1900-era ice cream shop was recently named, “the number one thing every Hoosier must do” by Indianapolis Monthly magazine.

 

Frazier’s Dairy Maid

 

  • Location: Anderson
  • Unique Flavor: Soft Serve Turtle Sundae
  • Fun Fact: Frazier’s Dairy Maid has been voted “Best Ice Cream in Madison County” for the past 5 years and is well-known for its mouth-watering soft serve.

 

The Old Custard Stand

 

  • Location: Fishers
  • Unique Flavor: Peach Cobbler Sundae
  • Fun Fact: This shop is famous for its homemade custard.  While both custard and ice cream have milk, cream, and sugar, custard also utilizes egg yolks.

 

Graeter’s

 

  • Location: Carmel, Butler-Tarkington, Fishers
  • Unique Flavor: Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip
  • Fun Fact: Bobby Flay once said that Cincinnati-based Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip ice cream was one of his favorite ice creams.

 

Ice Cream Paradise

 

  • Location: Lebanon
  • Unique Flavor: Hot Fudge Cake
  • Fun Fact: This place is a well-known kid-friendly ice cream spot in Lebanon.  They even have a playground next to their shop named “paradise playground.”

 

Frosty Boy Drive-In

 

  • Location: New Palestine
  • Unique Flavor: Pineapple Whip
  • Fun Fact: Frosty Boy sells delicious “frosty pops” or ice cream popsicles that can be made with any ice cream flavor or topping.  Yum!

 

The Big Dipper Ice Cream Parlor

 

  • Location: Crawfordsville
  • Unique Flavor: Super Hero Ice Cream
  • Fun Fact: The Big Dipper Ice Cream Parlor always announces their different types of famous sherbet on their Facebook page.  Previous flavors include: strawberry, cherry, dreamsicle, black raspberry, and lemon.
