Racing into Spring: Indy’s Best Run/Walks

Spring is coming and that means it is time to break out the running shoes and get ready to train for one of Indiana’s many spring races.  Below, we have listed some information on a few of our favorite races for the spring!

 

  • 49th Sam Costa Half Marathon and 13th Sam Costa Quarter Marathon

    • This marathon is truly an Indiana running affair.  The marathon is put on by the Indy Runners and Walkers, “Indiana’s largest RRCA-affiliated running club.”  All profits go to support Indy running initiatives, competitions, and programs.
  • Hot Chocolate 5k/15k

    • Yes, this run is all about hot chocolate!  In the race, runners can stop at one of many “sweet stations” to grab marshmallows, chocolate chips, or M&Ms.  After the race, runners receive a sweet treat. This run raises funds for Make-A-Wish.
  • Carmel Marathon Weekend

    • The Carmel Marathon Weekend is made up of a marathon, half marathon, 8K, 5K, and marathon relay.  Every year, the Carmel Marathon chooses a myriad of official charity partners to support.  This year, eight were chosen.  
  • 500 Festival 10 Miler

    • If you are running the Mini Marathon, you may want to consider running the 3-, 6-, or 10-Miler.  The Miler series is designed to, “coincide with a typical training program for a spring distance race.” What a great opportunity to prepare!
  • DINO Trail Run – Eagle Creek

    • If you think running on a flat surface is boring, DINO races are for you!  Set up in various parks, these races are known for their steep inclines and rugged trails.  DINO also hosts other events such as mountain biking and triathlons.
  • Earth Day Indiana Recycle Run 5k & 1 Mile Walk

    • This beautiful race along the White River is all about raising awareness for Earth Day and the power of recycling.  Given that this is a whole day celebration, there will be local food vendors, live music, and over 125 exhibitors at the event.
  • OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

    • If you are from Indiana, you have will have heard of the Mini Marathon. This well-known Indianapolis race starts with an IndyCar leading each wave of runners and takes runners around Indy, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
  • Geist Half Marathon

    • The Geist Half Marathon is all about, “promot[ing] health and wellness in Geist area schools.”  Going along with the school theme, St. Vincent sponsors a simultaneous “Geist Race Across the Reservoir” to engage students in fitness.
  • Monumental Mile

    • Aptly named the Monumental Mile, this race is built for sprinters.  Last year, the top male and runner finished in 4:06.4 and 4:43.4, respectively.  The Monumental Mile is under the same race management as the Mini Marathon.
  • 12th Annual Heroes for the House

    • If you like to run for a cause, this race is for you!  Funds raised from the race, “help families with children in area hospitals stay at the nearby Ronald McDonald House at little or no cost.”  This certainly seems to be a race worth running!
