There are many things to see and do in Clinton County. The Local History Museum has a collection of antique furniture, school items, and other local memorabilia. For those who enjoy live theater, Red Barn Summer Theatre won’t disappoint. But all the “stars” aren’t just at the theater: visitors can watch the stars in the sky at The Prairie Grass Observatory, home to one of the largest non-collegiate telescopes in the Midwest.

Nature lovers can have fun at Indiana’s newest state park, Prophetstown State Park. Visitors can discover 1920s farm lifestyles, Native American culture, and take a stroll through 900 acres of restored prairie while enjoying bird watching, fishing, and walking paths to Sugar Creek. Residents look forward to two annual outdoor events. Colfax’s Ole Hickory Days Festival includes a fish fry, live music, a car and truck show, vendors, and a parade. The Clinton County Fair is an annual event since 1853 and offers lots of good food and family fun.

The major employers in Clinton County, all located twelve miles from Colfax in Frankfort, are Frito-Lay, Zachary Confections, Federal-Mogul Corporation, NHK Seating of America, Wesley Manor Retirement Community, St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital, Walmart Supercenter, and LEP Special Fasteners.

The most common industry in the Colfax area is manufacturing. About one-third of the working population is employed in this industry. Almost the same number of people work in the construction industry. Many people who live in this area also work in public administration; wholesale trade; professional, scientific, and technical services; administrative and support; and waste management services.



The Community Schools of Frankfort provides students with a rigorous and relevant curriculum that begins with early childhood education and extends beyond the classroom. Technology is utilized across the curriculum so students can apply their talents to impact their lives and the world around them. Blue Ridge Primary Elementary School serves Grades PK-2; Green Meadows Intermediate Elementary School serves Grades 3-5; Suncrest Elementary School serves Grades PK-5; Frankfort Middle School serves Grades 6-8; and Frankfort High School serves Grades 9-12. For those who want to continue their studies after graduation, there are seven colleges and universities within a 40-mile radius of Colfax.

Clinton County also has satellite campuses of Indiana Wesleyan University, Indiana University of Kokomo, Ivy Tech, and Purdue University. These schools offer a range of classes at various venues within Clinton County in alliance with local schools and industries alike.
