Goshen Area Homes

Goshen is the vibrant center to northern Indiana’s Heritage Trail. You can see from a map that almost all roads lead to this varied collection of beautifully restored turn-of-the-century buildings and tidy Victorian homes. Goshen is located 10 miles southeast of Elkhart, 25 miles southeast of South Bend, 120 miles east of Chicago, and 150 miles north of Indianapolis. The Elkhart River winds its way through the city and through a dam on the south side that creates the Goshen Dam Pond. Rock Run Creek also runs through town. The city is divided east/west by Main Street and north/south by Lincoln Avenue. This is the perfect location for those who work in town and for commuters alike. South Side Soda Shop is a restored diner with dining car and a 1940s soda fountain that serves classic American fare, shakes, and malts. Kelly Jae’s Cafe is a bistro serving Spanish tapas with Asian accents plus a full bar. Venturi is a Neapolitan pizza specialist serving cocktails and pizza pies made with handmade mozzarella. Jules Boutique, Liv’s Boutique, and Gamze Neer Exclusive are three of the fun shops in Goshen that bring high-quality goods to residents and visitors. And for beautiful, locally made art in various mediums, head to the Old Bag Factory to admire the artistry and talk with nationally known quilters, potters, and sculptors.


Culture and Entertainment

Goshen has seven parks and a few different greenways and trails winding through the city. Just outside of town, walking and biking paths fan out along the Maple City Greenway and the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail. Stop at the south side Wal-Mart in this Amish region and look at what is rumored to be the first Wal-Mart in the United States to provide a covered stable for its frequent Amish customers.

The Elkhart County Fairgrounds are also located in the city where the Elkhart County 4-H Fair is held in late July. This county fair is the largest one in Indiana and the second largest in attendance in the United States. The Goshen Air Show is also an annual event that takes place at the Goshen Municipal Airport.


Careers and Industry

Goshen’s business development philosophy is progressive and responsive with the city's Community Development Department focusing on the repurposing of past industrial sites for future development and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and residents who find a wider variety of available jobs. Manufacturing is the most common industry in the Goshen area. The city is known as a center of manufacturing for recreational vehicles and accessories. There are automotive component manufacturers like Benteler and firms that build custom bodies onto chassis like Supreme, Independent Protection, and Showhauler Trucks. RV manufacturing companies like Dutchmen, Forest River, and Keystone are also located in this area.

Goshen is home to IU Health Goshen Hospital and IU Health Center for Cancer Care.  Each of these medical care providers have won multiple state and national awards for patient and employee satisfaction. The city is also home to the county's only four-year institution, Goshen College, and the school offers many employment opportunities.



Goshen Community Schools serves all parts of the city that is inside Elkhart Township. This system consists of seven elementary schools, Goshen Middle School, and Goshen High School.

In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked Goshen High School as the 12th best high school in Indiana as well as placing it in the top six percent of high schools in the entire country. With both public and private schools available, Goshen is among the top ten percent of Indiana schools for National Merit Scholars.

Educators in this school district believe that education is a cooperative effort of the schools, community, parents, and students. Education is a lifelong process, and all students have the right to a quality education that is appropriate to their individual needs. The curriculum offered is rigorous and comprehensive, and the school employs technology to improve instruction at all levels.
