Elwood Community Schools serve the city of Elwood in Madison County, Indiana. The school district is made up of three public schools as well as a career center for continuing education, which offers a full curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and beyond. Elwood Elementary School
Elwood Elementary School, which houses Grades K-2, is bustling with exciting activities and learning techniques. The frequent activities put on by the faculty of Elwood Elementary School include Career Day, Carnivals, Homecoming Parade, Bingo for Books, Field Day, Grandparents Night and more. The fun atmosphere that has been implemented at Elwood Elementary School ensures that the classrooms remain a welcoming and exciting place for students to learn. This public elementary school has been well-received by the parents of the city and has earned itself an impressive five-star community rating.
Elwood Intermediate School
Formerly Elwood Middle School, this educational institution has undergone a transformation this school year, making it Elwood Intermediate School for students from grade 3 to 6. This intermediate school offers a diverse and engaging curriculum as well as elective arts programs and special education. This ensures that each student at the institution receives education that is beneficial to him or her.
The school also places technology at the forefront of the learning structure of each classroom and has plans to introduce 130 iPads to the classrooms to assist with the student learning. Elwood Intermediate also introduces a new annual theme at the beginning of each school year, encouraging student involvement and a community spirit.
Elwood Junior-Senior High School
What was previously called Elwood Community High School serving Grades 9-12, has recently undergone a significant change. Starting in the 2014-2015 school year, the high school has been transformed to a Junior-Senior High School, offering curriculum for Grades 7-12. Twenty new staff members were added to the school’s faculty to support the growth, and the name of the school has been changed to Elwood Junior-Senior High School to reflect that.
The school’s athletics department, known as the Panthers still remains as a core part of the school’s curriculum. Football, volleyball, golf, cross country, tennis, bowling, swimming, and baseball are just some of the sports teams offered at Elwood Junior-Senior High School. Prior to the school’s expansion, EJSHS had a five-star community rating, which is only expected to remain as the school and community adjusts to the recent changes.
